Appearance, Usability and Search Engine Visibility Issues in Web Design
The three most important factors you have to take into account when you sit down to plan a new website. Striking appearance of a site with flashy graphics and appealing colors can win you a customer without doubt compared to a website with basic and simple design however, there is a thin line till which you can extend on appearance as after that, you will be encroaching on Search Engine Visibility of your site making the website more or less invisible for a good big percentage of your potential visitors and while you are worried about the appearance and search engine visibility do not forget your users as the usability of your site will determine whether or not the user will like your site or never want to come back again.
In this series of blogs I shall take up all these three aspect one by one as all the three are equally important and carry the same weight in a website’s success commercially as well as with the users.
Appearance
Newcomers to website designing, be it the owner getting a site designed for the first time or the new web designers themselves, tend to lose focus while they are still on the appearance of the design and in most of the cases tend to give a lot of importance to the appearance only. If you are a regular surfer you might have tumbled upon sites with flashy graphics and drop down menus that resemble the menus in an operating system. If you are a newcomer, take this advice.. appearance is important but not the most important factor for the success of your site. If you doubt that, compare Google with Yahoo or MSN.
Therefore, there is no point in overlooking the other more important issues in web design.
