Usability of a website is Important to Achieve its Purpose

All websites are created for a specific purpose and the success of a website is determined by the percentage to which the website is able to achieve its purpose. Some are created to show off personal photographs, some to share information and then there are some that are made to make money.

The most important factor in achieving the purpose is undoubtedly the usability of the site. A great design is good enough to keep your visitor engaged but as soon as he wants more and is unable to find it easily on your site, he’ll go back to Google and look for another site! The only question you need to be pondering over is whether or not a user can easily find the information he is looking on your site, so that they can effectively do what you want them to do on your site.

There are three things that you need to take care of to ensure optimum usability of your website, that is, Information availability, Information accessibility and Navigation. I will take up Information availability and Information accessibility in this blog and deal with navigation in the next one as most of the people manage to get first one right and to some extent the second one as well however, the most critical of the three, navigation, gets left out almost always and becomes the reason for a websites downfall.

Information availability

Visitors are going to trust your site only if you provide them with all the information that they need to know before making a decision, probably buy a product. One line intro below products is good but you might just increase sales if you had a link with more info on the same.

Information accessibility

From experience, I can tell you this, if you make your visitors find information on your site, they are not going to do that. Either make the information available right away or place easily visible links.
