Buying and selling of products or services on electronic devices such as the Internet and other computer networks is known E- commerce or more commonly known as electronic commerce. Since the rampant and drastic growth in usage of the internet the quantum of trade conducted electronically has grown in geometric progression. A wide array of commerce such as electronic funds transfer, supply chain management, internet marketing, online transaction processing, electronic data interchange (EDI), automated inventory management systems, and automated data collection systems are conducted in this way on the internet or through electronic means. The World Wide Web is used at least once in the entire transactional lifecycle of any product in the modern electronic commerce through a wider range of resources such as e-mails, blogs, etc.
Virtual items such as premium content access on any website forms a small but noticeable percentage of electronic commerce but almost all electronic commerce ultimately includes physical objects and their carriage in one way or the other. The selling aspect of any e-business is generally seen as E-commerce or electronic commerce.
In the dot com time, web commerce, also another name for e-commerce came to include activities such as the buying of goods and services on the World Wide Web, usually using a protected connection such as HTTPS, a secured server protocol that encrypts classified ordering data for enhanced customer protection with e-shopping carts while making electronic payment services, using credit card through electronic approval.
On date it includes a very wide array of business activities and processes, from e-logistics to offshore manufacturing to e-banking. The rising reliance of modern industries on electronically enabled business processes give momentum to the growth and development of underneath systems, including backend systems, applications and middleware such as broadband and fibre-optic networks, customer relationship management software, supply-chain management software, financial accounting software and inventory control systems.
